A Bloody Fright

Just had to get back to the pirates. The Statue of Liberty thing was exhausting. Could have put a bit more time in this one, but wanted to cleanse the palette, as it were. Also, didn't want to go to color on this one. Wanted a simpler look on this one. Poor Barnabas, stuck between a rock and a hard place. Think I'll try to figure out what got him in dutch with the crew so bad.

I love this, Count!!! You could do a little book about what Barnabas did! I'd buy it!
Really, all the stuff you've been posting is great, including the little censorship piece.
Keep going! I can't wait to see what you do next!

i don't understand.
you just chided robotaekwon-z because he censored his pirates out of fear of offending, but now you won't indulge yourself or anyone else with a drawing of Blackbeard because others might take it as offensive?
i don't mean to pester you about this, but don't you see that you've backed down from freedom of pirates.
freedom of pirates (as long as someone else forces you not to) isn't fredom fo pirates at all.
its kind of like a farce of pirates.
what a bummer

I hope the pirates riot on the high seas. Why are cartoonists so irresponsible?

Great drawing Count. Hey, how did you guys get those animated do hickeys on your posts. Please, someone, hold my hand and show me how. I wanna be a cool kid too.

when i get a chance, i'll draw Blackbeard, but you have to link it. thanks for your opinion, even though i don't agree. i think the right for freedom of pirates extends to all scurvy dogs and all landlubbers, just as the belief that all wenches are created equal is self evident. that belief crosses over with this one. it is a philosophy of piracy that is being furthered here. it is a fight against "high seas" mentality.
first off, those pirates aren't "hate" pirates. they were an editorial on current scurvies. secondly the belief they are offended by is that we merely DRAW Blackbeard, which is against their belief. i'm sorry about that, but it was done in a country where freedom of pirates and piracy is legal.
it is not their ship and yet they are exercising dominion over the world with their cutlasses.

so really it comes down to this: pick a ship.

we can't just sit on the shore and hope this will go away. if we apologize for the pirates and don't ever draw Blackbeard, then get prepared to make more concessions to pirate beliefs, even though you aren't a pirate. to their mentality you are beneath bilge rats.

Well, I asked for contrary opinions about pirates and brigands and I got them. And believe me when I say I be glad for it. I mean it. Yarrrrr...

That being said, allow me, one more time, to reiterate my point. This is a piece about MY country's swashbucklers. Skribbl, if you have an issue with Muslim brigands, that is your issue.

A couple of other quick thoughts. Just so I make it clear, I did not label the cartoons of pirates "hate" cartoons. I said I don't draw hate cartoons. The whole sea dogs issue came up in these comments, starting with your comments. (By the way, skribbl, where is your blog?)

You say we must pick a ship. I think I have made my views about piracy on the HIGH seas perfectly clear, and my feelings about this booty stealing blackguard. But a friend of mine put it pretty well. "I'll worry about the mess in my own poopdeck before I tell other people about how to run their mizzenmast." That is to say, this drawing, again, is about Barnabas. Now I agree that freedom is freedom. But I believe there is enough "high seas" mentality and wenches in this country to go around and deal with. As far as sitting on the salty shores and hoping for this broadside naval attack thing to go away, well good luck to you with that cannon fight. If you want to take on the Muslim pirate world, may the Cap'n of your choice be with you. As far as apologizing for those pegleg cutthroats, who said anything about that? I have tried to make it clear that my drawing was not about what happens on the open seas.

You say you will draw Blackbeard when you have time. Good for you. We'll see when that is. I have made a drawing showing my pointed steel and invited critique. I received it. Will you do the same and open yourself up to the same scurvy? It's easier to shoot cannonballs than be hit by them. And as far as "I have to link to your drawing, I don't HAVE to do shite. I invited you to draw Blackbeard, I didn't say you HAD to.

Believe it or not skribbl, I really am glad to hear different "yars and "thar she blows!". We may have to agree to disagree about walking the plank, but we're talking about it and I think that's a good thing. We're artists, we should talk like this. That's why I love THIS old garbage scow.
